Good to know in Cancun
- Transit: Colectivos (shared minivans) run downtown for $0.50-1 and the R-1/R-2 city buses serve the Hotel Zone for about $1, skip taxis whenever possible.
- Tipping: 10-15% is appreciated at restaurants; at taquerias and market stalls rounding up a peso or two is fine and well received.
- Tap water: Do not drink tap water in Cancun, buy a large 5-liter garrafón for $1 at any OXXO or refill at purified water stations to save money over small bottles.
- Free-entry days: Mexican nationals and foreign residents get free entry to INAH archaeological sites (including Tulum and El Meco) every Sunday, tourists pay full price, so plan your budget accordingly.
