Good to know in Okinawa
- Transit: Okinawa has almost no train network outside Naha's single monorail line, rent a car (from ~$25/day) for real freedom; the Naha Bus Terminal is cheaper but slow.
- Tipping: Tipping is not practiced anywhere in Japan, including Okinawa, leaving money on the table can actually cause confusion or mild offense.
- Tap water: Tap water is safe to drink throughout Okinawa, so carry a reusable bottle and skip the convenience-store bottles.
- Free-entry days: Shuri Castle's outer grounds are always free; Ocean Expo Park (which surrounds Churaumi Aquarium) is free to enter, only the aquarium itself charges admission (~$19 adults).
